What happened in IPL 2022?

The fifteenth season of the IPL, also known as IPL 15 or for sponsorship reasons, TATA IPL 2022, was played from 26 March 2022 to 29 May 2022. The tournament featured eight teams, including two new franchises: Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants. The other six teams were Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals. The tournament followed a double round-robin stage, where each team played each other twice, followed by a playoff stage, where the top four teams competed in a qualifier-eliminator format. The final was played on 29 May 2022 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where Gujarat Titans defeated Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets to win their maiden IPL title.

Jos Buttler: The run machine

The English wicketkeeper-batsman was the leading run-scorer of the tournament, with 863 runs in 17 matches at an average of 57.53 and a strike rate of 156.96. He scored six fifties and two hundreds, including a record-breaking unbeaten 158 off 74 balls against Gujarat Titans in Jaipur. He also won the Orange Cap for being the highest run-getter and the Most Valuable Player award for his all-round performance.

Yuzvendra Chahal: The spin wizard

The Super Over thriller between RCB and LSG

One of the most exciting matches of the tournament was played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow on 18 April 2022. Rajasthan Royals, however, chased down the target with two balls to spare, thanks to a heroic innings by Jos Buttler (158 not out off 74 balls) and a cameo by Rahul Tewatia (31 off 11 balls). Rajasthan Royals registered the highest successful run chase in IPL history and kept their hopes of qualifying for the playoffs alive.

Gujarat Titans: The debutant champions
